What is a DAC SpeedMill® ?

A DAC SpeedMill will rapidly pulverize any wet or dry product mix using Dual Asymmetric Centrifuge technology.

A fully enclosed rotary ball mill which uses abrasive Ceramics or hardened grinding rings inside a sealed Mix Cup.

 

 

 



Hauschild Mix Cups are available in polypropylene (PP), aluminium (AL) or Stainless Steel (SS). 

An original DAC Hauschild SpeedMixer® will provide the power to efficiently mill and grind products
with ease, safely sealed inside a sealed Hauschild Mix Cup.

The same DAC technology first used in the world's first original commercial SpeedMixer in 1974, invented by Gerd-Ulrich Schmidt that to date, has sold over 60,000 devices to every continent.

Maximizing attrition from controlled impact, collision, abrasion and friction ensures agglomerates are rapidly reduced, milled and ground to a minimal, consistently fine quality where sub micron, nano particles can be produced.  

Using select, abrasive, hardened ceramic grinding media or stainless steel pulverising rings inside the 'DAC SpeedMill', products can be ground or milled to fine particle sizes.


DAC SpeedMill® Ceramics

Productive Innovations supply two ranges of SpeedMill Ceramics, both offer profiles of cylinders or spheres. These ranges are manufactured from specifically selected hardened abrasive materials to offer maximum performance.

DAC SpeedMill Ceramic Cylinders are particularly effective due to their parallel sides mating to each other, maximising
contact area of the vertical sided Mix Cup walls.

The spheres will retain their position on the bottom of the Mix Cup processing the material as it is forced to move
and rotate inside the sealed Mix Cup.

How does a DAC SpeedMill® work?

Place ceramic profiles in an empty Hauschild Mix Cup. Cylinders should all be stood vertically for maximum particle abrasion and attrition. Add your chosen dispersant to wet or dry grind product in the DAC SpeedMill.   

A) Apply the Mix Cup safety seal and close the screw top lid.

B) Cross check the total weight is within the SpeedMixers weight parameters.

C) Place the Mix Cup in an appropriate holder inside your SpeedMixer.

D) Select the mixing program - (RPM and cycle time).

E) Start the SpeedMixer.

Grinding begins immediately.

Nb: Monitor and regulate temperature during processing as high kinetic energy produces heat.

DAC SpeedMill vs Traditional Ball Mill

A traditional rotary ball mill is like a heavy duty washing machine with its drum set at 90 degrees. These use round ceramic grinding media which fall to crush, grind and pulverise the product into fine particles. Spherical abrasive balls are placed into the sealed drum / chamber which is then rotated. A given substance is introduced which climbs up then tumbles away from the walls as it rotates. As this 'ball mill' rotates the ceramic media move, grind together and fall creating friction, impact and collisions. This process gradually reduces the size of agglomerates (lumps) and the larger particles. Traditionally this takes hours to process fully and occurs at low speed. 

The DAC SpeedMill works to the same principle, adding a 'modern day spin' with unrivaled power.

The original Hauschild SpeedMixer® is the most powerful materials mixer in the world - period. These will generate over 1000x gravity's force (g-force) and operate at up to 3500rpm.

How to test the particle size?

There may well be a visible reduction in volume after mixing. This is because the particle sizes reduce and may
compact. under the extreme force applied by any Hauschild SpeedMixer
®.

Traditional use of an industrial sizing gauge will yield differing / inconsistent results, even from trained operators. 

Beyond this, in order to determine a measured particle size, use of an SEM (scanning electron microscope) is required which also relies upon operator accuracy and strict process control.

For accurate, automated and reliable scientific data we fully recommend the use of a TIDAS instrument from Labman Automation. The TIDAS system will automate the product spreading process, then it digitally scans, measures and records the product surface offering consistent and repeatable process control. Compare the measured results to the original sample. Repeat if necessary until the correct processing speed and time is determined.
